Design

Shimkhur reimagines the traditional wooden mortar through a sculptural, contemporary form. Carved from a single block of teak, its wide, shallow bowl rises from a solid pedestal, creating a quiet sense of balance and permanence. The gently recessed centre recalls the hollow of a well-used mortar, while the flowing curves soften a form once defined by labour. It is an object that carries the memory of function, transformed into timeless craftsmanship.
