Our Story

Shaped by Heritage, Guided by Passion

Mawon Woodworks is a small woodworking brand based in Dimapur, Nagaland, founded by brothers Shirme Ruivanao and Themrin Ruivanao.

We craft handmade wooden items that blend traditional motifs with minimal design. Every piece is created with care using locally sourced teak wood, renowned for its high quality in the region.

MAWON

In the local Somdal dialect, Mawon means prosperity, wealth, and success — a name chosen with the hope and intention of building something meaningful.

Our journey began in 2019, during the early days of the global pandemic

With the world at a standstill, we turned to woodworking as a creative outlet, starting small with a handmade chopping board crafted behind our house. That simple moment sparked something lasting, and we’ve been learning and building ever since.

Dimapur, with its deep-rooted traditions in food, crafts, and everyday life, continues to shape our work. Our goal is to preserve the uniqueness of our culture by blending traditional elements with practical, modern design. As the world shifts toward minimalism, we strive to create pieces that feel grounded in heritage while fitting seamlessly into contemporary spaces.

Each piece of wood begins its journey in a local sawmill, where we source our materials. Once the teak is brought to our workshop, it is dried, shaped, carved, and finished by hand. We work in small batches, giving each piece the time and attention it deserves. This slow and thoughtful process ensures that every item is unique, with its own story and character. We take pride in the subtle imperfections that make each piece one-of-a-kind. Our focus is on creating non-toxic, food-safe decor and serving essentials that people can use and enjoy every day.

Every piece we send out carries a part of us, and we’re grateful that it finds a place in your home

Our journey is still unfolding, and we’re thankful you’re here for the ride.
